This course will allow individuals to understand the popular sport of fly fishing by providing small-group hands-on instruction in both an indoor class setting and outdoor practical application and experience. Each class will expose students to new layers of information and experience including history, equipment, casting and fishing techniques and fishing opportunities (local and distant). An instructor-written booklet is provided as well as examples of periodicals and books for student use. The last class is planned for a local pond to get that real fishing experience.
Roger Flinchum is a retired teacher, having taught 42 years at the local high school. He has been a fly fisherman for over 45 years and has taught dozens of people to fly fish. He has fished in Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, the Bahamas, Montana and Colorado. He also builds fly rods and ties flies.
