Only 3 days left to register!
This course will look at the prevalence of Walking within contemporary art. It will be part theory and making. The course will culminate in the formation of an art walk by each participant. We will be begin the course by examining what is walking: perfection of falling? sculpture? performance? time travel? movement? dance? etc. The class will be dependent on weather as we hope to venture outdoors to engage in creative movements. Other classes will be indoors with slide lectures and group discussion. The discussions will center around Rebecca Solnit’s Wanderlust: A History of Walking, which can be read fully before class begins or in parts over the course. Skills are open-ended. Movement abilities are open: some walks may be less than 10 feet.
Note: It is recommended that each participant read Wanderlust: A History of Walking by Rebecca Solnit. Other suggested books include The Lost Art of Walking: The History, Science, and Literature of Pedestrianism by Geoff Nicholson, The Art of Walking: A Field Guy by David Evans, and A Field Guide to Getting Lost by Reccan Solnit.
